How are we doing?

Thank you, everyone, for the positive responses we've had so far with this blog. Our top ten was as fun to list and describe as it was difficult to refine but I think we're on the right track. I think we're going to try our hand at some disorganized reactions and reviews for a few posts, a few to keep your eye out for;

Nara
Lydia's Kansas City
WestChase Grille
Art of Pizza
Harry's Country Club
Jess & Jim's Steakhouse

Our real challenge will be keeping our upcoming BBQ joints list to a top five. As always, be liberal with your responses, let us know what your opinions are, and let us know what you like to eat Kansas City!!!

Breakfast Anyone?

Okay, I know we were a little longer between posts than expected, but I have been brainstorming a little on how to approach this post. The next two spots on our Top 10 list we like almost exclusively for breakfast, yes they both do fantastic lunches also, but it's the breakfast that we keep going back for. Additionally, our last pick on the Top 10 is sadly closed. Piccadilly Cafeteria closed it's doors on March 31st, 2010 and we will sorely miss them. For this post we've decided to round out the Top 10 with our breakfast choices; Mama's on 39th St., Jerry's Woodswether Cafe, and Dagwood's Cafe.

Kansas City breakfast aficionados will certainly recognize Mama's as an area landmark. Most Mama's fans have been regulars for years at the original Bell St. location and at the new 39th & Waddell space (formerly the venerable Nichol's Lunch). Be prepared to spend an inordinate amount of time trying to figure out what you want... pancakes, waffles, breakfast sandwiches, french toast... egg and meat combinations, Oinks (freakishly good pigs in a blanket), corned beef hash... 40+ omelet variants from ham and cheese to smoked salmon and cream cheese... oh, and don't forget the deep fried cinnamon rolls. For breakfast options, you can't beat Mama's. We also recommend the burgers at lunch time.

Jerry's Woodswether Cafe is firmly rooted in the local breakfast/diner scene. For years located on Woodswether Rd. in the West Bottoms of Kansas City, Mo. they uprooted and moved to their current W. 9th St. location a few blocks north. For real deal, no frills, freakin' delicious breakfasts in a gentrified rough and tumble dive environment, Jerry's is indeed the place. Personally, we love the waitresses and the omelets... and the pancakes... and the corned beef hash. Honestly, it's ALL tasty. As a side, check out the lunch specials. Frogs legs make regular appearances.

And finally, not to be denied, Dagwood's is that quintessentially perfect diner. A mainstay for locals in KCK, as well as neighboring KCMO, be prepared for a relaxed, homey breakfast. Folks here are not in a hurry (which may be an issue if you're in a hurry) and consequently your meal will not be hurried. Pancakes are fantastic, perfectly prepared fried eggs over-medium (do you know how hard it is to get this consistently), simply (and simple) delicious omelets, and the hot coffee keeps a' comin'. For breakfast perfection (that's the third time I've used a variant of "perfect" in this review) Dagwood's Cafe cannot be missed.

Kansas City is jammed with great breakfast spots and we'll be the first to admit we haven't scratched the surface. But we're always looking... let us know what your favorites are.
